History

Investigate our history from the mergers that made the University to a course of events that gives a special perspective of the occasions that have formed who we are currently.

The University opened its entryways on 24 October 1883 and was formally settled by Royal Charter in 1884.

We were named the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire and were minor in examination to our present size. There were just:

13 scholarly staff

12 divisions

102 full-time degree understudies

49 low maintenance understudies.

In 1893 we got to be one of the establishing foundations of the University of Wales and started honoring their degrees. By 1972 we had taken the name University College, Cardiff.

Mergers 

We converged with the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST) in 1988. In 1999 people in general name of the University changed to Cardiff University.

In 2004 we converged with the University of Wales College of Medicine. The College of Medicine was a piece of the first University however had divided from in 1931, making this a reunification.

In December 2004 the Privy Council endorsed another Supplemental Charter allowing us college status. Our lawful name changed to Cardiff University. We are currently free of the University of Wales.

We recompensed understudies conceded before 2005 University of Wales degrees. From that point forward we honor understudies Cardiff University degrees.

The College of Arms conceded our ensign in 1988 after the merger with the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology.

The arms highlight 'supporters', which in heraldry are once in a while allowed to colleges. The heavenly attendant and the mythical beast are gotten from the peaks of the combined establishments.
